THE GROWTH OF A MOVEMENT
Shop Small is more than just a day to shop local; it’s a national movement celebrating the impact of small businesses on our communities and economy. Launched by American Express in 2010, Small Business Saturday® has become a holiday that draws attention to local businesses and encourages shoppers to support them the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

As your Neighborhood Champion, the BBA is committed to making your Small Business Saturday participation impactful and engaging! When you join, here’s what you’ll receive:

• Business Spotlight Series on Social Media: Leading up to Small Business Saturday, we’ll feature one participating business per day on the BBA’s social media platforms, highlighting your products, services, and promotions. Businesses will also be tagged to encourage cross-promotion, boosting your visibility.

• American Express SWAG Kit & Social Media Toolkit: We’ll provide each participating business with a box of American Express SWAG—banners, shopping bags, stickers, and more. Use these items to decorate and brand your storefront, creating a cohesive “Shop Small” look. We’ll also provide graphics and templates for your social media posts. Share your displays with the community by tagging the BBA and American Express for additional exposure.

• “Support Small Business” Social Media Challenge: The BBA will encourage the community to participate by shopping local and sharing posts with a dedicated hashtag (e.g., #ShopSmallBayside). Tagged posts will be reshared on BBA’s page, helping to promote your business even further.

• Add Your Business to the American Express Shop Small Map: Get additional visibility by registering on the American Express Shop Small map, which allows customers nationwide to discover and support your business. We can guide you through the registration process to ensure your business stands out.

• Weekly Virtual Shop Tour & Meet-the-Maker Series: We’ll host short virtual events on Instagram Live and Facebook Live where businesses can share a quick tour, highlight unique products, or tell their story. We’ll promote these events through BBA and American Express channels, connecting you with a broader audience.

Additional Promotions & Mentions:
Each participant will receive:

• One social media spotlight post leading up to Small Business Saturday.
• Once weekly social media posts featuring individual businesses, scheduled by the BBA.
• Once weekly group listing with other participating businesses on the BBA’s social media.
• Mentions in BBA mailings throughout the Shop Small season.
• Once weekly resharing of your tagged posts on BBA platforms.

Participants are responsible for submitting their information, logos, and any social media graphics they’d like the BBA to share.

This service is FREE for BBA members. Non-members may participate for a $50 administrative fee.
